US Business Delegation Due in Ghana Today

The United States House of Representative Republican Conference Chairman, J.C. Watts (Jr.) will lead a Congressional and Business delegation to Ghana from August 27 to 29, a US Embassy statement said.

The delegation, who will also go to Mali, Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria includes five other Congress members and nearly 25 business leaders to discuss trade, economic development, health care, disease prevention and the promotion of democracy and stability in the region.

"We are on the cusp of a new day in Africa. Democracy and economic reforms are sweeping the continent so it is critical that leaders in Congress and the corporate world seize this moment and work together to accelerate this change," the statement quoted Chairman Watts as saying when he announced the trip in Washington.

"I am particularly delighted to be joined by top leaders in the business community who I hope will see the opportunity that I saw during a trip to Africa in April with other members of Congress," he said.

Chairman Watts said he was hopeful that the trip would allow them to explore ways to forge new partnerships between the business and nations of Africa and U.S. and improve millions of lives.

This would be his second visit within five months.

The delegation would host a reception for the media at La Palm Beach Hotel tonight at 6.30 in the evening.

Ms Kathryn Dee Robinson, US Ambassador and Chairman Watts will address the press.
