Dr Hassan Ayariga, founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) has lashed out at the US Ambassador for what he calls a “misguided” and “cajoling” praises of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the “most visionary Ghanaian President in recent history”.

In a statement copied to MYNEWSGH.com, Dr Hassan Ayariga said the US diplomat was simply pandering to the interest of the US government in Ghana to protect US government interest in the Exxon Mobil deal and MiDA deals in which the US government had a heavy stake.

“Robert Jackson was cajoling Akufo-Addo to commit the country’s energy sector to Exxon Mobil and Millenium Development Authority, which has almost taken over our Electricity Company of Ghana.”, he wrote.

Dr Ayariga said the interest of America is what prompted the top US diplomat to shower undeserving praises on President Akufo-Addo, who he alleges is “failing”.

“The interests of America are the reasons behind the hype of a rather failing president”, he wrote.

The APC leader said comparing the infrastructure record of former President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo, it was unthinkable for the US Ambassador to rate the President miles ahead of his co-equals.

“More baffling is the fact that the diplomat again said Mahama was visionary and needed to be credited for the infrastructural development. Good admission. But logically how is Akuffo Addo who is yet to boast of a single infrastructure and is likely to achieve none be compared to others who have achieved so much? Can a virgin be compared to a mother of many when we are comparing their children? Indeed Akuffo Addo does not deserve to be compared to any of his predecessors. He has not even reached anywhere to be considered in their class.” The statement said.

Mr Ayariga took pains to enumerate why he thinks the US Ambassador was wrong.

“His (Akufo-Addo’s) only achievement is his ability to swiftly and successfully cover up corruption. At the time of appointment of his so-called Special Prosecutor, more corruption stories are emerging in his government. Another scandal is being alleged at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST). We should be sure the President will soon clear it”, he wrote.
