UN Delegation meets the two gates of Dagbon

Yendi (N/R), Nov. 3, GNA - A six-member delegation from the United Nations (UN) have paid a two-day visit to the Dagbon traditional area to interact with the Andani and Abudu Gates to find a lasting solution to the chieftaincy crisis in the area.
Mr Sammy Kum Buo, Deputy Director of Political Affairs of the UN led the delegation, which included Mr Chetah Kumor, of the UNDP Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery, Mr Gay Rosenblem-Kumar of the UN Department of Economics and Social Affairs and Prince Mohammed Mahama, the United Nations Programme Field Officer of the UNICEF.
The delegation had earlier held discussions with the Northern Regional Security Council and representatives from the Andani Gate and later moved to Yendi to meet the Abudu Gate. Both meetings were held behind closed door.
Talking to the press later, Mr Ernest Debrah, Northern Regional Minister said the delegation was on a fact-finding mission to access the situation in Dagbon to enable it to assist the government in its efforts to peace building in the area.
Mr Debrah said the UN delegation expressed concern about the situation in Dagbon because Ghana had been a nation of peace and had also assisted other countries in the sub-region to settle their conflicts.
