UG student attack: SRC touches on issue after long management meeting

After an extensive meeting with management, the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) have publicly spoken following last night’s incident where a male student was found on the Pent- Evandy road severely butchered by a suspected gang of armed robbers.

The council speaking to www.ghanaweb.com said a team led by the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students this morning paid a visit to the victim who according to them is in bad shape but receiving treatment in a hospital currently.

Among other matters addressed, they advised students to ply only authorised school routes and also endeavour to always carry their ID cards as there would be constant checks conducted at vantage points to ensure safety.

“We encourage students to use approved routes. There are routes that students all the time want to use because of shortcuts. We encourage all students to use main university streets”. He stated

The SRC President, Sylvester Amoako who spoke on behalf of the council said all street lights along the Pent-Evandy hostel stretch have been fixed and also with the help of national security and other agencies, security has been heightened.

“This issues are things that in time past we’ve heard of them. Particularly along the pent TF stretch. We all need to get our hands on deck to solve it once and for all. All street lights on campus have been fixed and we have collaborated with national security and university management to ensure there’s intensified patrol on campus which started yesterday” he added



He noted further that the school is ready to foot the victim’s entire medical bills and has also put in place necessary structures with regards to the ongoing exams.

“We regret this whole incident and we’ve called on management and the entire bills of our brother will be taken care of. His examinations and everything would be taken care of and we are rest assured that he would be fine. He indicated
