The University of Ghana has called off its Students’ Representative Council’s (SRC) election slated for today [Thursday], following disagreements over the positioning of candidates on the ballot paper for aspiring SRC presidents.

A notice of postponement by the school’s Electoral Commission said the decision was taken after consultations with school authorities.

Confusion broke out at the University of Ghana Printing Press on Wednesday following disagreements over the positioning of candidates on ballot papers.

The Electoral Commission is said to have held balloting twice, changing the positions of candidates, leading to the confusion.

The Dean of students has subsequently instructed the University’s Printing Press to cease printing the ballot papers.

There have been allegations of rigging in the past with the electronic system of voting.

The SRC General Assembly thus approved the EC’s CI to conduct the elections via a hybrid system that is manual and electronic.
