UG, KNUST, UDS: 8 Universities compete in Honda Football Championship in Tamale

Football lovers and university students in and around Tamale are set for an exciting football experience as Honda brings together eight (8) universities for the maiden Honda Football Championship, a unique tournament aimed at promoting youth development, sportsmanship, and community engagement.

The championship will take place at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale, from Tuesday, March 24 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm daily. The event will also feature two (2) top high school football teams in a curtain raiser ahead of the final. This is expected to set the tone for a great final game.

Competing teams include University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), University for Development Studies (UDS), University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Tamale Technical University, and Bolgatanga Technical University.

The championship will be free for the public, allowing football fans, students, and residents of Tamale and its surrounding communities to attend and enjoy the matches without any admission fee. This initiative reflects Honda’s commitment to supporting community-centred activities and youth empowerment through sports.

F. Yao Dawson, the Managing Director of Overseas Union Ltd., the authorised distributor of Honda motorcycles & power products in Ghana, emphasised the brand’s dedication to supporting initiatives that inspire young people and promote positive social impact through sports and innovation.
