UFP elects Nana Agyenim Boateng as its flagbearer

The National Chairman of the United Front Party, Nana Agyenim Boateng has been endorsed by popular acclamation to be the presidential candidate of UFP for the 2016 elections at the party’s national delegates congress in Kumasi.

The colourful event was highly patronized by a large crowd including supporters and other political parties. TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo reports that six national executives and their deputies were also retained to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

After the overwhelming acclamation by delegates, Nana Agyenim Boateng called for unity among the party leadership to ensure victory. He also called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from the government as their civic responsibilities.

“UFP is the only political party that can bring development to the country and transform the economy,” he declared. He urged the electorates to abide by both the tenets of common sense and the law to avoid double voting or flouting electoral rules.

He called on the National Commission for Civic Education to up their public education drive to enable the electorate appreciate how to exercise their franchise and do so the right way.

Nana Agyenim Boateng challenged the Electoral Commission to ensure free and fair elections on December 7. The General Secretary of the Party, Prince Zakariah, called on the electorate to reject NPP and NDC, and vote massively for UFP to ensure total development in the country. “We are committed to the development of the country,” he said.

The disabled coordinator of the party, Agya Oppong called on people with disability to vote massively for UFP. He noted that successive governments did not have their interest at heart. The executives elected at the congress include Nana Agyenim Boateng, National Chairman; Samuel Osei, Deputy General Secretary; Prince Zakariah, General Secretary; Enoch Anane, Treasurer; David Obeng, Deputy Organizer; and Noah Anoh, National Organizer.

Others include Ernest Amish, Youth Organizer; Habiba Mohammed, Deputy Women’s Organizer; and Joana Antwi Adjei, Women’s Organizer; Though the event was planned to start at 10am Saturday, it began around 12pm, despite the fact that most of the delegates arrived at the venue on time.

The delay gave advantage to the party faithful, particularly the exuberant youth to dance to popular Ghanaian dance hall tunes and the party’s national anthem.

The event later began in earnest with Nana Agyenim Boateng stealing the show with his entry to the venue. He was received with thunderous cheering amid drumming and dancing.

Data available at the registration desk indicated that more than 2000 delegates drawn from the ten regions of the country attended the congress.
