UDS Gets ?21.6 Billion From GETFUND

The government, through the GETFUND, has allocated ?21.6 billion to the University for Development Studies (UDS), for more infrastructural development, academic equipment and faculty development and research.

It is also to be used as payment of fees for UDS Clinical Students who are undergoing training at the University of Ghana Medical School, Korle-Bu and School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

Ms. Elizabeth Ohene, Minister for State responsible for Tertiary Education, announced this at a meeting of donors and authorities of the university convened by the UDS Council to seek further support for the University, to enhance standards at the institution.

Among the donors were representatives of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), United Sates Agency for International Development (USAID), and the World Bank.

Ms. Ohene announced that, apart from the GETFUND support, the government had sourced a 9.8 million dollar facility from the Spanish government to augment the equipment needs of the university. She said that the support was meant to demonstrate government’s belief that the UDS, when helped, would play a unique role in tertiary education in the country.

The Vice Chancellor of UDS, Prof. John Kaburise, announced that UDS campus in Kintampo would soon be opened with admissions based on gender equity.
