UCC Vice Chancellor appeals for more computers

Cape Coast, Jan. 10, GNA- The Vice Chancellor of the University Of Cape Coast (UCC), Reverend Professor Emmanuel Addow Obeng, on Thursday appealed to organisations and philanthropists to assist the university to acquire computers to enable it to set up computer laboratories in all the halls of residence to enable students to have easy access to the internet.

Rev. Prof. Obeng made the appeal when an American NGO, 'American Educational Program for Africa", led by its chief executive, Mr William Sam, donated assorted science books worth 10,000 dollars to the University.

The Vice Chancellor said it was the aim of the university to train high calibre personnel who would be of immense benefit, to the nation. "Its dream is to ensure that all students gained computer knowledge without any difficulty", he said.

He said the university is in the forefront of science education in the country, and is offering a wide range of science programmes, adding that the books "would be of tremendous help to the science faculty".

Mr Sam said his organisation was concerned about the continuing fallen standards in education in Africa, and that was why the NGO was assisting African schools with textbooks, science equipment and computers as a means of arresting the situation.

He was hopeful that their support to beneficiary schools would help raise standards and bring about the needed quality of education in Africa.
