Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, has urged former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to come clear on her description of the New Patriotic Party’s 2012 flagbearer as a true statesman and lawyer.
According to Mr. Twum Boafo, prior to the 2008 elections the former first lady had alleged that Nana Akuffo-Addo was not a lawyer.
“Prior to the 2008 elections, the former first lady said Nana Addo was not a lawyer. It became a problem and we all rushed to her defence…prior to that, this same non-lawyer had preferred 27 charges against her for which she could have gone to jail…so if she now believes that Nana Addo is a true statesman and a lawyer, then does that say something about the charges he preferred against her?” he questioned.
Mr. Twum Boafo further said the former first lady’s comments that Nana Addo is a true statesman smack of hypocrisy.
He added that if anybody should be celebrated for championing the country’s path to democracy, former President Rawlings should be acknowledged. “If you live with Jerry Rawlings, why will you be looking for a statesman elsewhere?” he asked.
His comments comes in the wake of the former first lady’s visit to Nana Addo to congratulate him for accepting the verdict on the election petition, a move she linked to the former’s pedigree as a lawyer and a true statesman.
Mr. Twum Boafo spoke on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji with Alhassan Suhuyini on Saturday.
