Two people die in accident at Chiraa

Two persons perished when a taxi cab collided head-on with another vehicle at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo on Monday.

Two others, who are in critical condition, are on admission at the regional hospital in Sunyani, while a woman only identified as Theresa, has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

The bodies of the deceased, Ebenezer Tettey, 48, a fire officer stationed at Nkoranza who was driving the taxi cab with registration number GR 9276 S and Stephen Ameyaw, 57, District Manager of the Techiman Municipal office of Ghana Post Company, have been deposited at the regional hospital.

Mr. John Eshun, crew leader of the regional office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday that the accident occurred around 1715 hours.

He said an eyewitness told fire personnel who rushed to the scene that, a 4x4 Hyundai vehicle with registration number GR 4141-11 belonging to Unilever Ghana Limited was driving at a top speed from Techiman to Sunyani.

On reaching Chiraa police station area, the Hyundai vehicle driver attempted to overtake two vehicles but in the process collided with the taxi cab, which was coming from the opposite direction.

Five passengers were on board the taxi cab and the driver of the Hyundai vehicle and one other person, who sustained minor bruises, fled the scene after the accident.

Mr Eshun said the accident had been reported to the Sunyani Municipal police command for further investigations.

He advised the general public to always call the office of the GNFS on emergency number 193 for prompt attention to accident victims.

The crew leader also advised drivers and commuters to exercise patience on the road and avoid unnecessary overtaking and speeding.**
