Tamale, June 26, GNA - Two Lawyers have been elected to head the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive's (MCE) Bilchinsy Peace Advisory Council launched a two weeks ago.
"Bilchinsy", a Dagbani word meaning incorruptible, unrighteous and self-respect was carefully chosen by the Tamale Metropolitan Security Committee to champion the crusade against indiscipline and social decadence in society.
The two are Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, chairman of the Council and Mr. Roland Issifu Alhassan, vice chairman, both veteran lawyers, were elected during the Council's maiden meeting in Tamale. Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) launched the "Bilchinsy" peace initiative in the Tamale Metropolis with an aim to bringing stakeholders and opinion leaders together to seek ways of finding lasting peace for Tamale and its environs. The Bilchinsy Council is made up of chiefs, opinion and religious leaders, expected to offer advice to members of a taskforce, recruited to implement decisions that the council would take in the various communities.
At the Bilchinsy Peace Advisory Council's maiden meeting, members expressed concern about other acts of indiscipline, which included juvenile delinquency and the complete absence of law and order in the Metropolis, and stressed the need to adopt holistic measures to make Tamale a haven of investment.
The Council has called on city authorities to adopt measures that would prevent teenagers from staying out during odd hours, to the detriment of their studies, while the enforcement agencies had been advised to periodically organize unannounced swoops to check and arrest wrong doers.
Alhaji Friday congratulated the two lawyers on their election and appealed to them to take decision that would promote the interest of all in the Metropolis.
One Mr. Salifu Kalala was unanimously elected to head the "Bilchinsy" taskforce, the body responsible of implementing the Bilchinsy council's decisions in the various communities.
