Two men, who robbed a student nurse of her hand bag containing an IPad, mobile phone and an amount of GH¢ 400 after pulling a cutlass on her, have been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment each.
This was after a circuit court in Accra had found Daniel Armah and Bernard Owusu guilty on the charges of conspiracy and robbery.
The court said although the convicts denied the offence, prosecution was able to establish its case beyond reasonable doubt.
It, therefore, rejected their defence that they only went to the La Pleasure Beach to dance.
Handing the down the sentences, the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh said it considered their plea for mitigation and the fact that they were first offenders.
The court said it ought to punish them over societal disapproval against the act of robbery especially in places of pleasure.
The case of the prosecution was that on January 6, the accused persons robbed one Gloria Adjei of her bag containing an Apple Ipad valued GH¢ 2,500, Infinix Hot Note Phone valued at GH¢ 800 and an amount of GH¢ 400.
Prosecution said the two on the day of the incident were armed with a cutlass and when Gloria and her friend were returning from the La Pleasure Beach the incident occurred.
Gloria and her friend shouted and other witnesses around assisted them to arrested Armah and Owusu.
