Two in Court Over Attempted Sale of Money Machine

Two persons who attempted to sell a machine for printing fake currencies to a businessman on Tuesday appeared before a circuit tribunal in Accra. Robert Kwesi Mensah and Sylvester Amuzu, both traders, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and attempting to commit crime. An accomplice, Agbesi, said to be the leader of the group, is on the run. The tribunal remanded them into Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) custody for further investigations. They are scheduled to appear again on May 8.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Benedicta Akolgo said Mensah and Agbesi approached the complainant Alhaji Abudulai and offered to sell to him a machine and bundles of papers, which could be used to print fake dollars. The complainant feigned interest and alerted the Police about the deal. On April 28, the accused persons decided to meet the complainant at ' Mile 7', a suburb in Accra to conclude the transaction. The Police arrived during negotiations and arrested the two but Agbesi escaped.
