Two farmers remanded for possessing marijuana

Two farmers, caught with large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana have been remanded in prison by the Juaso Circuit Court.

The pleas of Osei Yaw and Yaw Abossi were not taken and they were ordered to make their next appearance on September 27.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Obuor told the court, presided over by Mr. Yusif Assibey, that the pair was arrested by police officers on routine patrol duty at Dwease in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality on September 01.

He dried leaves, packed in eight parcels and concealed in a sack, was being carried in a taxi from Dwease-Praaso.

It was uncovered when police officers patrolling that road corridor stopped and conducted a search on the vehicle.

The prosecution said the two claimed ownership of the dried leaves and they were arrested.

He requested that the court remanded the accused persons to enable the police to send sample of the leaves for forensic laboratory examination.
