Truck loaded with soft drinks catches fire at Teacher Mante

A container cargo truck transporting soft drinks has caught fire after it got involved in an accident at the Teacher Mante stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred at about 2pm on May 7, 2018.

The Vehicle, with registration number GS 8231-13, was transporting about 4000 packs of “Special Drinks” alleged to be the product of Despite Group of Companies from Accra to Kumasi when two of its tyres at the front burst causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel.

The vehicle suddenly caught fire which consumed and charred the vehicle before the arrival of fire service personnel.

The driver and mate of the vehicle, according to EIB Network’s Eastern Regional correspondent, Kojo Ansah Sasraku, who reported from the scene, escaped unhurt.

Some residents who rushed to the scene before the arrival of the rescue team managed to offload some of the soft drinks.

A joint rescue team of Police, NADMO and Fire Service personnel were at the scene to extinguish the fire and control traffic.

The Ayensuano Acting District Coordinator of the NADMO, Joseph Okai Djan, who was at the scene said efforts are being made to tow away the accident vehicle.
