A 19-year-old mother from Ntsin, a coastal community in Cape Coast in the Central Region, has narrated how an attempt to escape from her abusive aunt led her to engage in an amorous relationship with a fisherman old enough to be her father.

According to her, she was simply seeking help and peace after fleeing an abusive home, but instead, she got impregnated by an old enough fisherman to be her father.

She indicated that she had no support system and limited options to survive after fleeing home; so, she felt she had no choice but to give in to the fisherman as a means of survival.

The teenage mother name withheld, at just 19 years old, is already nursing a one-year-old-four-month-old baby.

Her story was captured by GhanaWeb’s latest documentary titled ‘Sex for Fish: The Grim Truth Behind the Exploitation of Teenage Girls’, an intriguing piece that set out to investigate sexual exploitation of young girls in a town in the Central Region called Ntsin.

Other troubling revelations included four teenage girls who disclosed how men lured them into sex in exchange for fish, a trend they described as a main source of livelihood for many girls in the community.

The 19-year-old mother recounted how she gave birth at the age of 17; sharing the painful details of how she got entangled in the situation.

“I am 19 years old and my child is one year and four months old. I gave birth at the age of 17 years only. The father of my child is a fisherman. He slept with me when I asked for his help after I left home due to my aunt’s maltreatment. In return, he gave me fish, but later stopped and began giving it to another girl,” she narrated.
