Some traders and owners of temporary structures operating along the “Fijai to Secko Junction stretch on the Takoradi-Cape Coast N1 highway” have appealed to authorities to find alternative places for them to continue their economic activities.
This was after the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) served notice to them that their structures had been earmarked for demolition to pave the way for work to begin on the Takoradi-Cape Coast N1 highway dualisation project.
The Assembly said it would, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, begin the removal of about 500 traders and structures from the affected areas for the construction works to commence.
Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the project, captured under the government’s “Big Push” initiative, was one of the 32 major roads listed in the 2025 mid-year budget review.
He said the long-awaited expansion of that corridor formed part of the government’s broader national agenda to revamp infrastructure and stimulate economic growth and development.
The project would feature nine interchanges, 10 bridges, 15 footbridges, and 20 kilometres of service roads, along with rest stops and axle load stations to improve safety and traffic flow.
The MCE stated that the Assembly was committed to overseeing the project to its successful completion.
However, Napoleon Agyemang Oduro, the Assembly Member for Kojokrom Electoral Area, whose community is most affected, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) pleaded with authorities, chiefs and families, and landowners to help get a temporary place for the traders.
He said: “In fact, we are happy the President is touching on this road because everybody knows how we have lost lives on it, especially through head-on collisions, so we are prepared to cooperate with the government on this project.
But, in my Electoral Area, about 132 kiosks and containers have been affected and that is a lot, so when we move them, where are we going to settle them?”
Oduro, therefore, asked the government to liaise with landowners and other key stakeholders to get alternative places and relocate the affected individuals to help them continue engaging in their economic activities.
