Trader fined 15 million cedis for burning rival's belongings

Tema, Oct. 21, GNA- A 38-year-old trader of Tema Manhean who became furious with her rival and set her belongings ablaze, was on Thursday fined 15 million cedis by a Tema Circuit Court. In default Kafui Agboli would serve three years imprisonment in hard labour.

She pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage to items totaling 24 million cedis.

Chief Inspector of Police Mary Azunta, told the court that the complainant, Ms Jennifer Oyakhlome is a Nigerian and met Agboli's husband in Cote d'Iviore sometime in January, this year. She said the man made her to believe that he was a divorcee and wanted to marry her.

They then entered into a relationship but the man after sometime left for Ghana.

The prosecutor said Jennifer also arrived in Ghana in May 2004 to visit her fianc=E9 but he refused to send her to his house and lodged her with his friend.

Jennifer after three months stay with the friend felt cheated and decided to go to her fianc=E9 house to stay with him.

When she got to the house her fianc=E9 was not in but his wife Agboli allowed her to pack three of her suitcases at the corridor of the house.

However, after several advice from friends Jennifer who was then about to pack the rest of her belongings from a waiting Taxi decided that she would not stay in the house but Agboli refused to allow her into the house to pick her three suitcases.

The accused then set fire into the items, which included clothing, shoes, bags, a passport and cash.
