Tpoly students advised to return to campus

Accra, July 4, GNA - The Takoradi Polytechnic Students Committee for Peace on Wednesday advised students of the Polytechnic to return to campus and prepare for the end of semester examination scheduled to begin on July 9.

It said it would be in the interest of the students to return to campus since the Polytechnic authorities would conduct the examinations irrespective of the number of students present on campus. A release signed by Mr Kwabena Ofosu, Chairman of the Committee and Mr Frank Addo, Spokesperson for the Committee, said the directive was necessary because the Polytechnic Council had cleared the Principal of the Takoradi Polytechnic, Dr Obeng Apori, of all allegations levelled against him by the students.

"We are aware of the fact that the appointment and removal of the Principal is the sole prerogative of the appointing authority and not that of the students," it said.

The Student Committee for Peace said it would resist any attempts by GNUPS to blackmail students of Takoradi Polytechnic into not writing the examination as part of its orchestrated campaign to remove the Principal of the Polytechnic.

It expressed regret and disappointment that the current impasse had cost the first and second year students the opportunity to be placed for industrial attachment which constituted an important aspect of the examination grading system.

It had also adversely affected the process of registering third year students for National Service.
