Information reaching The Chronicle indicates that the two police officers who tortured a suspect at a police station in Koforidua, Eastern Region, have been interdicted.

The interdiction comes less than 24 hours after The Chronicle published on its front page about the incident.

The police officers have been identified as Sergeant Patrick Amoako and Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo, all of the Railways Police Station, Koforidua.

Background

The Chronicle newspaper reported of two junior ranked police officers who have allegedly subjected a suspect in their custody to severe physical abuse.

The video showed the two personnel stationed at the Railway Station of the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region using bicycle tyres to assault the suspect who is said to have been accused of stealing GHC1,600 from his employer.

The suspect identified as Dodzi insisted that he took GHC350 from his boss’ private car and not the reported GHC1,600 he was being accused of stealing.

Despite initial denial of the incident by the two policemen, they allegedly claimed that they sought to extract a confession from the suspect and therefore resorted to beating him with bicycle tyres.
