Torgbi's Voice is our Voice!

We wish to comment on Citi 97.3 fm radio program in the morning of the April 22, 2009 which dwells speech of Torgbi Afede XIV, delivered at the durbar held in honor of President J E A Mills visit to the Volta Region over last weekend. We wish to state categorically that Torgbi Afede did speak positively for us albeit insufficiently. Torgbui could have said a lot, lot more.

The neglect of the Volta Region by the previous government cannot be over-emphasized. Our attention in this matter is government ineptitude and not tribal or ethno-centric interpretations which some ethnic factions have given to the situation we have witnessed in our relation with the Government of Ghana between 2001 to 2008.

Our particular instances are numerous and provide various reasons for a qualified generalization. A few of the instances which we can mention include the following:

· Our several petitions to the Government of the Republic of Ghana to intervene in the Anlo matter to prevent what happened on November 1, 2007 fell on stony ears.

· Police were authorized to murder innocent citizens in Anloga on November 1, 2007 and no investigations have yet been conducted till today.

· Several criminal activities emanating from the Awomezi matters have since 2002 remain ignored.

· The surreptitious closure of the eastern borders during the last elections to disenfranchise the people of the Volta Region.

We challenge anybody to view these matters in the light of the responsibility of a democratic government and still dispute Torgbi Afede XIV, Paramount Chief of Asogli Traditional Area and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, and our resolution.

Anlo Youth Council firmly support the statement of Torgbi Afede XIV, made at Ho, and urge him to assist the voiceless in this country to air their grievances at every opportunity. Torgbui’s Voice is Our Voice!
