Timber dealer remanded for assaulting farmer with chainsaw

The Akyem Ofoase Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region has remanded a timber dealer, Samuel Agyei Donkor, for allegedly assaulting a farmer, Kofi Boakye, with a chainsaw machine.

The accused, popularly known as Rabbi, also serves as the Constituency Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency.

The incident occurred at Akyem Bontodiase, where Donkor had gone to cut down trees near the public cemetery.

The farmer, Kofi Boakye, who is the complainant in the case, confronted Donkor and questioned whether he had obtained authorization to harvest the timber.

A heated argument ensued, during which the accused allegedly picked up the chainsaw and attempted to attack the farmer.

Boakye managed to escape but sustained injuries on his upper back.

The matter was reported to the local police, leading to the arrest of Donkor.

He was subsequently charged with assault and arraigned before the Akyem Ofoase District Court, presided over by His Worship Benjamin Bennet-Attabrah.

The court has remanded the accused into police custody to reappear on July 17, 2025.

The victim has since been treated and discharged from the hospital.
