Three persons died on the spot

Nkoranza (B/A), June 8, GNA - A cargo truck with registration number GR 7789 G loaded with watermelons was involved in an accident at Breman, near Nkoranza on Tuesday.

The dead have been identified as Isaac Ofuakwa, a farmer from Akumsa Domase, near Nkoranza, Kwadwo Danso, from Mampong in Ashanti Region, driver's mate and one Vida a trader from Accra. Inspector Daniel Numekpeku of the Accident Squad of Nkoranza Police Station told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital mortuary for autopsy. Inspector Numekpeku said the driver of the vehicle had not as yet reported the incident to the police who were making efforts to arrest him.

Mr Fosu Ankra Twum, a teacher at the Akumsa Domase Presbyterian Primary School, near Nkoranza and Mr Yaw Boateng, an electrician also at Nkoranza, who witnessed the accident said the vehicle had loaded the watermelons from a farm at Akumsa Domase and was heading towards Nkoranza.

They said, while speeding up, the vehicle swerved off the road and the driver lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle somersaulted killing the three instantly. A team of fire servicemen, the police and some people rushed to the scene and assisted in removing the watermelon to allow other vehicles to pass.
