Three car snatchers held on remand

Kumasi, Nov. 22, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded three people who allegedly snatched a taxi from a driver at knife point into prison custody.

Maxwell Yeboah, Bismark Dwomoh, alias “Yaw Baah” and Isaac Dwamena, alias “Nelly”, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery.

Standing trial with them is Frank Gyasi, who is accused of dishonestly receiving the stolen car an offence, he denied.

They were ordered to re-appear on Tuesday, December 6.

Miss Marie-Louise Simmons, an Assistant State Attorney, told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the crime was committed on July 27.

She said Mr Yeboah presented himself as a student of the Sunyani Polytechnic and engaged the services of the driver of the KIA Rio car, Kwaku Nsowaa Hopretey, to carry him from Sunyani to Kumasi to collect money from the parents.

She said the driver asked a friend to accompany them on the trip.

Mrs Simmons said whilst in Kumasi, Yeboah took the driver to Bantama and Pankrono and set off on the return journey at about 1830 hours.

She said Yeboah then advised the driver to use a short route through Atimatim to avoid the normally huge traffic on the Tafo-Suame Roundabout road whiles his other two accomplices, Dwomoh and Dwamena, were waiting at the Maase community.

She said on reaching the Maase community, the accused told the driver that they had lost their direction and should seek assistance from the two, who as planned were standing by the road side.

Mrs Simmons said after showing them the way, Yeboah pleaded with the two to join them in the car for further assistance.

She said as soon as they got on board, Yeboah put off the engine, removed the key from the ignition and signaled his colleagues to beat up the driver and his friend, they then pushed them out of the car and sped off.

Mrs Simmons said a report was made to the police and investigations led to their arrest and they admitted the crime in their caution statement.
