A three unit classroom for People With Disabilities (PWDs) has been commissioned at the Begoro Salvation Army Rehabilitation Centre.

The GH¢120,000.00 facility has disability friendly classroom complex with air condition classrooms , each classroom is fitted with a 50 inches plasma television set, washrooms and modern teaching materials for PWDS .

The project was funded by Mr Foster Agyekum, a philanthropist and would ensure that persons with disability were given quality education to migrate them from dependency to independence.

Speaking at the function, the Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs GiftyTwum-Ampofo called on communities to devote adequate attention to the welfare of PWDs.

She commended the philanthropist who single-handedly constructed the new rehabilitation centre and assured that through the various policy interventions, government would provide their basic needs.

The keys to the facility was received on behalf of the rehabilitation centre by Colonel Joseph Lukau, Salvation Army Territorial Commander.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at the sidelines of the day’s event, MrAgyekum said, it was his passion to put smiles on the faces of people with disability and he had been assisting such people for over a decade.

Mr Agyekum, a native of Begoro said he was driven by his passion to fund the construction of the project for the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Centre to cater for PWDs in his hometown and appealed to government and the Fanteakwa North District Assembly to place the students at the rehabilitation centre under the school feeding programme.

The Salvation Army rehabilitation centre has a total of 160 students.

Present at the function were; the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa North, Mr Charles Oware-Tweneboah ,Member of Parliament(MP) for Fanteakwa North, Mr Kenneth Asiamah , MP for Krachi Constituency, Mr John Majessi ,Assembly Members among other dignitaries.
