Three Fulanis murdered at Afram Plains

Three Fulani men were on Saturday murdered in two remote communities of Salamekorpe and Amedzorpe in the Afram Plains North and South Districts respectively.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yaw Nketia-Yeboah confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and said the perpetrators of the murder were yet to be identified but said vigorous investigations have started.

He said at Salamekorpe, a 60-year-old Mohammadu Ali and his children were suddenly attacked at about 0500 hours on Saturday, with gun shots by the unknown criminals.

In the process, Ali and one of his sons, 27-year-old Mohammadu Perssy died instantly.

ASP Nketia-Yeboah said the other six children sustained various degrees of injuries and were currently receiving treatment at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital.

He said another Fulani man, Alhaji Makamba, 55, was also attacked and shot at Amedzorpe in the Afram Plains South District the same day.

According to ASP Nketia-Yeboah, Makamba’s house was set ablaze by the perpetrators and when he came out to save his life, he was shot and subsequently beheaded.

Four other neighbours were also attacked and injured.

The Police Public Affairs Officer said the bodies of the three deceased had been deposited at the Donkokrom Presbyterian Hospital morgue, whilst the other ten injured persons were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

He said the Eastern Regional Security Council led by the Regional Minister and the Regional police Commander had been at the scenes to ascertain the situation, while reinforcement from Accra and the regional command had mounted heavy surveillance in those communities to avert any possible reprisals.
