Thousands attend picnic at Tamale

Tamale, April 5, GNA - The Kamina Barracks in Tamale was filled to capacity as people from all walks of life thronged the place to celebrate this year's Eastern Picnic. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday learnt that this year's event was the largest in terms of gathering with no negative incident recorded or reported.

Some people believe that the Volta River Authority Club House, another venue for the celebration, did not attract much crowd because people felt secured at the Kamina Barracks where the soldiers live. Some people were also found at drinking spots where they spent time drinks assorted drinks including the locally-brewed beer "pito" with dog meat.

Madam Mariam Tetteh, the wife of a police man, who had come to celebrate the day with the husband, expressed disappointment at the provocative manner in which some ladies dressed to the occasion. She said such dressing portrays the low moral standards in society today.

Miss Gladys Dai, a celebrant, said she came to meet her dream husband and expressed happiness that that has been accomplished. However, the celebration was disrupted by the rains. 5 April 10
