The Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Thomas Kofi Alonsi, has been relieved of his position.
With over 16 years of experience in the field, Alonsi was appointed to the role in March 2019.
Prior to his term of office, he practised law at Sory@Law in Accra, Ghana, and worked briefly as a research officer with the National Commission for Civic Education.
Alonsi holds a Dip. Ed/BA (Hons) in History and an M.Phil in History at the University of Cape Coast before switching to legal studies at the Ghana School of Law, where he was called to the Bar in 2003.
Alonsi has also held various political and administrative roles. He served as the District Chief Executive of the Builsa District Assembly and as the Regional Campaign Coordinator for the NPP in the Upper East Region.
He is a native of Wiaga in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.
Reasons for his removal have not been officially disclosed.
