Prince Bagnaba Mba, President of Forum for Equity, a human rights organisation has stated that, it is time for radical transformation of the inner city and urban railway system.
“The two main cities of Accra and Kumasi transport congestion is becoming a major setback of economic activities, growth and development and we must act now to bring the situation under control.
“We must as a matter of necessity take a very serious initiative to find a lasting solution by ensuring the acquisition, building and operating light railway in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale”.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mba said with the present appreciation of the cedi, development partners and investors were willing to seize the golden opportunity.
“The traffic gridlock during peak productive hours has negative effects on the economy. Intermodal transport system that links the rail to the seaports, airports and high density commercial and business centres ensure the visibility of the 24-hour economy.
He said any national development agenda without free flow of city; urban and rural transport was bound to be truncated and counterproductive.
He said commuters must enjoy the privilege and delight of fast and efficient light railway within the city.
“The efficiency of any remarkable economy is based on Transport.”
