This incident serves as a wake-up call to ground most of the aircraft in our Air Force, stated Kamaldeen Ibrahim, a member of the NPP Communications Team.
In the wake of the tragic Z9 helicopter crash that took the life of Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah, the Ghana Air Force is now under increased scrutiny.
Kamaldeen Ibrahim has called for immediate action to address the state of the Air Force's aircraft, according to a report by Sikaofficial on X dated August 7, 2025.
"In 2023, when I was going to Hajj, I had to be flown from Berma Camp to Tamale to catch the last flight. The aircraft I was on was very uncomfortable, and honestly, I was scared," Mr Ibrahim remarked.
He emphasised the urgent need for the government to acquire new, better-suited aircraft, pointing out that the current fleet is in "deplorable conditions," which has become a major concern.

This call for action comes amid growing public anxiety regarding the safety and operational readiness of the Air Force, especially following the recent tragedy.
"It was a terrible and terrifying experience. I couldn't imagine how our servicemen could manage with this situation. In many countries, these aircraft would be disposed of quickly," he added.
The incident highlights the critical importance of maintaining a modern and reliable Air Force.
"This should be a wake-up call to ground most of the aircraft in the Ghana Air Force, as the current ones are mostly in deplorable conditions," he concluded.
