Thieves raid schools at Busunya

Busunya (B/A) Feb. 4 GNA - Thieves broke into three schools at Busunya, the proposed capital of the newly created Nkoranza North District and made away with electricity cables fixed in the classrooms during the last Christmas festivities. The schools are Anglican, Roman Catholic Junior High Schools and Anglican Primary School.

Mr Obeng Boateng, Head teacher of the primary school told the Ghana News Agency that heads of the three schools mobilized funds to extend electric power to the schools to help the students in their studies as the community had failed to assist.

"The case was reported to the police and other opinion leaders in the area but no arrest has so far been made", he said and appealed to the youth to be vigilant to report suspicious characters to the police. The head teacher noted that since Busunya had been made the district capital a lot of people would troop to the area and community leaders should therefore be ready to check against criminal activities. Mr Boateng recalled that thieves also broke into the Islamic and Roman Catholic Junior High School at Bonsu, near Nkoranza and stole a number of dictionaries and other learning and teaching materials. He appealed to community leaders to help form neighbourhood watch committees to check the movements of suspicious persons.
