An individual has expressed outrage over what he described as an unnecessary delay in the release of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In an interview with JoyNews on Thursday, May 29, 2025, he criticised the NPP for failing to fully satisfy the GH¢50 million bail condition required for Chairman Wontumi's release.

Frustrated by what he described as incompetence, he questioned the commitment and efficiency of the lawyers handling the case.

"I heard from the news that they needed bail documents, but they couldn’t provide them, it doesn’t make sense.

“Instead of securing the bail documents this morning, the lawyer was just there being questioned at the CID. He still didn’t bring the documents. So how can they release the person to the public?” he queried.

Chairman Wontumi was granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

However, his legal team has yet to fully meet the conditions required for his release.

He is currently under investigation by EOCO over alleged financial transactions involving the Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank.
