The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has cautioned her constituents against engaging in violence during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb TV on Friday, March 20, 2026, while observing the Eid prayers with her constituents, she stressed that the occasion should be a moment of reflection for the youth, urging them to focus on building a better future rather than creating chaotic scenes that could lead to violence and even loss of life.
“Well, today is a very joyous day. Today is a day of celebration. Our people, our Muslims, have gone through 30 days of fasting and prayers. And I'm sure that everyone has their own request that they lay before the Almighty Allah.
“…It is my prayer that God will grant them their heart desires. As we continue to celebrate, I would like to urge especially my youth to stay away from violence, to stay away from especially the motor riding that will cause us accidents,” she said.
She further appealed to residents to celebrate peacefully, reminding them to avoid any acts of aggression during the festivities and to uphold the values of unity and harmony that define Eid.
“Today, I want to celebrate throughout the day. I don't want to go to the hospital to go and visit anybody. And so I'm urging all my youth that look, today, let's celebrate in moderation.
"We have every reason to celebrate because 30 days of fasting and prayers is not an easy one. And so Christians also went through Lent. And so, it has been a spiritual battle for both Christians and Muslims. And I urge everyone to celebrate in moderation,” Awuni told GhanaWeb TV.
