There will be no rerun in Kpandai - KT Hammond declares

A former Adansi-Asokwa Member of Parliament, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has dismissed claims that a rerun election will be conducted in Kpandai.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, December 15, 2025, Hammond said that the matter is still before the courts, despite the Electoral Commission setting a date of December 30, 2025, for the rerun.

The former lawmaker stressed that there are currently three separate court applications concerning the constituency, including a stay of execution that is pending at the Supreme Court.

“Who said there will be an election? The matter is in court with 3 different applications, including a stay of execution and another also at the Supreme Court,” he said.

He added that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not rush expectations of a rerun, noting that his side is ready to challenge the ruling of the Tamale High Court.

“… There is a stay of execution application which is pending and so no one should rush to conduct another election. What at all is the NDC looking for?

“We want the stay of execution to head to the Supreme Court to challenge the Tamale High Court’s ruling. Everyone should perish the idea of a rerun. There will be no rerun in Kpandai,” he noted.

Meanwhile, according to a latest poll by renowned pollster Mussa Dankwah of Global InfoAnalytics, Matthew Nyindam of the NPP holds a slim lead in the Kpandai by-election, ahead of his closest contender from the NDC.

Sharing this new information via an X post, Mussa indicated that this first poll gives the embattled sitting Member of Parliament of the area a 4-point lead.

This narrow lead places him ahead of the NDC’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal, whose individual move to test the law is what has put the Kpandai parliamentary seat in the fix it is now.
