There'll be no referendum if you exclude us from Mamprugu Moaduri District - Tampulmas and Mamprusis

The Tampulmas and Mamprusis want to be part of the Mamprugu Moadi District in the North East Region The Tampulmas and Mamprusis want to be part of the Mamprugu Moadi District in the North East Region

Tampulmas and Mamprusis in the North Gonja District of the Northern Region have threatened to pull out of the forthcoming referendum if the government fails to carve them as part of the Mamprugu Moaduri District in order to be part of the proposed North East Region.

They indicate that their communities continue to lag behind in terms of development and therefore will opt to be part of the Mamprugu Moaduri District or government and the appropriate authorities halt any attempt to hold a referendum in their communities.

“We have said this many times that we suffered the lack of the following: peace and security, education, health, road network and infrastructure, access to potable drinking water and electricity, support in agriculture, trade and commerce and general development.

Therefore, they must desist from such infiltration of unacceptable behaviors among individuals into our communities and leave the people of the communities to have the lasting peace and security and the other basic necessities of life in the North East Region we desire to be part. We, therefore, want to conclude by saying that until we are included into the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the North East Region, no referendum would take place in our area and other similar actions would follow suit when the need arises”, they threatened at a press conference.

According to leaders of the community, their latest demand was in furtherance to earlier calls by the government to include them in the proposed region since they feel neglected ever since they were carved to be part of the North Gonja District.

A PRESS RELEASE BY THE TAMPULMA AND MAMPRUSI COMMUNITIES IN THE NORTH GONJA DISTRICT FOR THEIR INCLUSION INTO THE MAMPRUGU MOADURI DISTRICT OF THE PROPOSED NORTHEAST REGION

We the people of the Tampulma and Mamprusi communities in the North Gonja District, wish to reiterate our quest to be part of the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the Proposed North East Region.

We previously presented our petitions requesting our communities to be carved into the North East Region during the Commission of Inquiry into the Creation of New Regions tour in the proposed North East Region.

Also, it must be noted that similar petitions were submitted by our communities requesting to be included into the Mamprugu Moaduri District during the creation of the new districts in 2012. Unfortunately, that request did not get the needed attention

We wish to state that our decision to be part of the proposed North East Region has not changed.

However, since the announcement of the proposed regions was made, some surrogates of Daboya, have been threatening the Tampulma and Mamprusi communities in the “Overseas” area of the North Gonja District against the inclusion of these communities in the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the Proposed North East Region.
