Thomas Anabah, the Member of Parliament for Garu in the Upper East Region, has expressed serious concerns about the complete lack of tarred roads in his constituency.

He described the situation as unacceptable and attributed the issue to decisions made by the previous NPP administration.

According to MP Anabah, the absence of adequate road infrastructure is stifling development and negatively impacting the livelihoods of residents.

He revealed that the previous government's actions have left Garu without any tarred roads.

Anabah is now urging the current government to prioritise road construction in Garu to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities in the area.

According to a citinewsroom.com report, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the MP said Garu once had tarred roads, which were removed during a failed upgrade project.

“We had tarred roads until some point. Towards the end of 2023, the NPP government gave the contract to the NPP parliamentary candidate to scrap the tarred roads and replace them with asphalt, and they did nothing afterward,” he stated.

The MP's concerns highlight the ongoing challenges faced by many rural communities in Ghana due to inadequate road infrastructure.

He emphasised that the removal of tarred roads has exposed the area to excessive dust, allegedly leading to a 45% increase in pneumonia cases among residents.

“As we speak, there isn't a single meter of coal-tar road in Garu, and cases of pneumonia have increased by 45% because of the dust. This problem was caused by the previous government,” he added.
