The Greater Accra Mayor has comforted victims of the recent fire outbreak at Accra Central, assuring them of immediate support and announcing plans for the demolition of dilapidated structures in the area.

During his visit to the scene on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Mayor was approached by a distressed woman who said her children had nothing to wear after the fire. In a compassionate response, he immediately offered assistance.

“As a woman is telling me right now that the kids don’t have anything to wear… I said, listen, we’ll provide something for your kids to wear,” he assured.

He urged the victims to remain patient, explaining that the affected building was very old and that better structures would be put up after demolition.

“If things happen, we should be patient. God knows why things happen. This building is very old. If we demolish them, the structure they are going to put up here will be better than what has happened. It’s only God who knows,” he said.

The Mayor also disclosed plans for extensive demolitions to clear unsafe buildings and prevent future disasters.

“So some demolitions will be done too? Very, very, very, very. We are doing it. I’m going to see the regional commander and put one or two things together and make sure we clear the whole place,” he stated.

His empathetic engagement with the victims has drawn positive reactions, as authorities intensify relief efforts and work towards long-term solutions in the fire-ravaged commercial area.
