Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Ghana, has said that the worst thing about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is its vigilante group, the Invisible Forces.

Bentil made the comment on Facebook after news broke that the Invisible Forces were managing the Kintampo Waterfalls when at least 18 people died there on Sunday.

Students from the Wenchi Senior High School and other tourists were swimming in the water when a big tree came crashing on them. Strong winds are said to have uprooted the tree from the ground.

Some of the students were killed instantly while others were trapped in the water, prompting rescuers to use chainsaws to cut through the trees in an effort to reach those trapped.

The development has provoked anger against the Invisible Forces in a section of the public for not doing more to prevent the disaster.

Nana Essah Boakuro, a traditional ruler in Kintampo, said the vigilante group was indirectly to blame for the disaster.

He said immediately the NPP won power, the group forcibly took over management of the Kintampo Falls and relieved the former staff members of their duties.

He said in the past when the managers of the falls foresaw danger as a result of weather changes or other factors, they warned tourists for their own safety until the weather was conducive for tourism.

“However, since the NPP boys took over, the waterfalls has been handled anyhow because they lack the expertise and competence,” Nana Boakuro said.

The Invisible Forces have also been in the news in recent times for seizing toilets and taking over public facilities across the country.
