An Accra Circuit Court is set to hear a bail application for embattled New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Abronye DC, who has been in the custody of the police for nearly a week, saw his initial bail application denied by the court after the police prosecutor argued that he might abscond from the country because of his asylum applications to about eight (8) countries.

The NPP Bono Regional Chairman is no stranger to finding himself in trouble with the nation’s security authorities.

In February 2025, he was summoned by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) after he accused President John Dramani Mahama of hoarding GH¢550 million, allegedly intended for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.

However, his latest issue with the nation’s security authorities is not directly linked to the president, according to multiple reports.

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has stated that the NPP Regional Chairman was arrested for what it described as “offensive conduct.”

“The Ghana Police Service has today, 08/09/25, arrested Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, for offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. He is currently in custody and will be put before court,” a statement shared on the Ghana Police Service’s official social media platforms on September 8, 2025, read.

Though the action of Abronye that led to the criminal charge against him has not been made known by the police, a number of reports have indicated that it is linked to his criticism of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

According to NPP communicator, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, during his interrogation by the police, Abronye was shown a video of himself criticising IGP Tetteh Yohuno, which allegedly formed the basis of the arrest and charges.

“It is important to add that, during the interrogation, a video was played where Abronye was seen and heard criticising the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno. This video forms the foundation of the arrest and charges,” he stated.

Other reports have indicated that Abronye DC is alleged to have made offensive statements during a live broadcast of a programme on Ohia TV called The Evidence, on September 3, 2025.

He reportedly described IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as a person with “low Intelligence Quotient (IQ)” and being “the most foolish IGP in the history of Ghana.”

The NPP Chairman also alleged that “the current IGP, Tetteh Yohuno, is the most corrupt IGP in the history of Ghana.”

The lead police prosecutor in charge of Abronye’s case is reported to have told the court that the accused person, on the same programme, spread false news against the IGP on the Akwatia parliamentary by-election; claiming that “all strategic meetings conducted by the NDC in Akwatia had the IGP in attendance.”

GhanaWeb has sighted viral videos of Abronye making several allegations against the IGP, including the ones stated above.

He accused the IGP of arresting people just to win the favour of President Mahama because he has a very limited time in office.

Another video showed Abronye using unprintable words against the head of the Ghana Police Service.
