The poor benefited more under NPP- Bawumia

Babile (UW), Oct. 28, GNA - Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Running mate to the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said that Ghanaians had benefited more from the NPP administration through the implementation of its pro-poor interventions.

He said the National Health Insurance, the Free Medical Care for pregnant women and the School Feeding Programme as well as the Capitation grant are some of the programmes of the NPP, which had benefited the poor.

Dr. Bawumia said this at a political rally at Babile in the Lawra-Nandom Constituency to round off his three days campaign tour of the Upper West Region.

He said the NPP government had also brought more development to the people and urged the electorate to give their mandate to the NPP to continue with the development efforts. He said the NPP had not discriminated in the sharing of the national cake and was determined to continue with the equitable distribution of development projects in the communities to benefit the people.

Dr Bawumia appealed to the electorate, especially those in the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions to be part of the victory of the NPP in this year's elections. "Whether you are PNC, NDC, CPP or DFP, the time has come for all of you to join the NPP for development, progress and prosperity of the North", Dr. Bawumia advised.

On peace, Dr. Bawumia appealed to the people in the north not to fight among themselves because of politics, saying politics was all about development and not war. He advised them to live peacefully and pool resources to fight hunger, illiteracy and ignorance, which he said were the enemies of the people and urged them to stop destroying the scarce human resource of the North.

At Jirapa, Dr. Bawumia told supporters of the NPP to be alert and not to fall prey to the traps set by opponents of the party to cause confusion in the communities to discredit the party. He said since independence, there had not been any serious attempt to address the disparity in development between the south and the north. This disparity has been a worry to the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo is determined to tackle the challenge, to bring equal development to the people.

"Do not be deceived that the NPP was an Akan party", he said, adding that, the NPP has its roots from the Northern People's Party, which was formed by pioneers of Northern Ghana and urged them to embrace the NPP.
