The one thing that made me fall out with Akufo-Addo – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has detailed the incident that became the tipping point for his now frosty relationship with President Akufo-Addo who once was his good friend.

Speaking in an interview with veteran broadcaster, Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), on the Friday, April 26, 2024, edition of the KSM Show, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said that his problems with Akufo-Addo began in the run-up to the election of party executives in 2014.

According to him, Akufo-Addo, who was then the flagbearer and leader of the NPP, championed efforts to ensure that Paul Afoko, a former national chairman of the party, would not contest the polls.

“I have known Nana Addo for years but what brought the difference between me and him was when under his leadership, we were having elections in Tamale to elect new executives (the National Chairman, his deputies and others) and everything was made possible for Paul Afoko not to be part of that election.

“But finally Paul Afoko became part of the election and won. Mind you, he (Afoko) was not appointed, he was elected by the people of the party and yet they found ways and means to move him out,” he said.

He added, “That was when I said my friend Nana Addo was not the Nana Addo I knew anymore”.

The NPP founding member reiterated that President Akufo-Addo is no longer the person he was good friends with because the president, according to him, used to be an honest and incorruptible man.

“The Nana Addo that I knew was simple, straight to the point. I’m not the only one who has known Nana Addo for a long time. We were all friends but to me, the person we have in the Flagstaff House is not the Nana Addo that I know.”
