Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mustapha Ussif has noted that the era of patriotism and nationalism during national service is gradually shifting hence, urging 2019/2020 Service Personnel to be ready to learn and become employable.

Though being patriotic and nationalistic is the whole idea of national service, Mustapha Ussif however, entreated service personnel to rather make an impact in the various institutions they’ve been posted to.

According to him, “The whole idea of service, the days where it was just for patriotism and nationalism, we are shifting. We want you to make an impact, learn and become employable”.

The NSS boss made this statement when he and some officials visited the Greater Accra Regional Office and the La Dadekotopon registration centers on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

The aim of the tour, Mustapha Ussif stated is to monitor the entire registration processes, solicit for information and also identify some challenges faced by both registration officials and registrants.

So far, the entire process is running smoothly at both centers though there have been some hitches at the Greater Accra Regional registration center.

Mustapha Ussif also stated that the use of technology in the registration process is to keep track of the 77,962 deployed NSS personnel adding that, it will aid in the disbursement of funds to them monthly.

“The idea of getting the biometric fingerprint captured is to ensure that only those we have posted and get their fingerprint validated will be paid with the consolidated fund. To ensure that there is value for money...and also to ensure that we can track each and every National Service Personnel at any point in time”.
