President Nana Akufo-Addo has mentioned that his government is keen on moving Ghana beyond aid and not without aid by the end of his tenure.
The president addressing issues concerning the IMF bailout said his government is committed to finishing the program but the November budget that will be presented by his government will be the last budget of Ghana government to be under the IMF program.
“The Akufo-Addo government has no intention of extending the IMF program, the November budget will be the last budget under the IMF program and we will be on our own, at least that is what most of you want us to be, on our own,” he said.
According to the president, the concept his government is working with is Ghana beyond aid and not Ghana without aid. “We are going to grow ourselves into a position whereby we’re no longer dependent on external sources to finance our budget” he stated.
Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated that, a critical part of the country’s budget like health, education, agriculture depends on foreign grants.” We’ve got to work our way out of that situation so that we can stand on our own to feed and design our own future free of external influences” he added.
The president also reiterated his resolve to fight illegal mining popularly known as galamsey in the country.
According to him, not even his quest to remain in power ahead of the 2020 elections will deter him from winning the fight.
The maiden edition of media encounter with the president took place at the Flag Staff House today, Tuesday, July 18.
