The "Homeless Dumped Sick" Man Perishes

Sunyani, B/A -- It is very worrying and sometimes disgusting to see a fellow human being suffer to the point of death without any help from the society.

Has the very constitution that we the people of Ghana adopted not provided for protection of right to life and respect for human dignity?

Since a Sunyani~based radio station broke the sad story of a man only known as Kwaku Bentoa last Friday, nothing was done to save that life until he gave up the ghost yesterday.

As a follow-up to the story, reporters of Space Fm visited the place where he had been lying since Friday to see him dead.

It would be recalled that Space Fm carried a story on a destitute that the Sunyani Regional Hospital authorities claimed had been clinically discharged from the Hospital after undergoing five-days treatment. According to the Hospital authorities, Bentoa was dumped at the Hospital by unidentified persons and since they could not trace his relatives the Hospital waived his bills.

The unfolding events have posed more questions than answers. For instance, why was Bentoa taken to his supposed residence in an ambulance and at dawn? Did the social worker who accompanied Bentoa inform the authorities where he left him (in the bush) ???? Was he in the position to walk on his own at the time of leaving him? Whose duty was it to come to the aid of the poor late man?

Meanwhile, the Hospital Authorities have deplored the attitude of people who dump casualties or sick people at the Hospital premises and run away.

Stay tuned for more revelations!
