The Ghana Football Association on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, announced the decision to part ways with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo effective immediately," part of the statement from the GFA read.
According to Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman, Otto Addo in the meeting after Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Germany made a "case for continue working as the Black Stars coach" but the "FA told him that they decided to let him go".
The report from Rahman Osman indicated Otto Addo began his response to being relieved of his duties with a simple but telling message: “Thank you for the opportunity.”
The sacking of Otto Addo comes after the Black Stars' poor run of form, capped by a 2-1 defeat to Germany and a 5-1 humiliating defeat to Austria on March 27, 2026.
Otto Addo was re-appointed as head coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association on March 15, 2024, marking a return to a role he had previously held on an interim basis.
He was first appointed as the interim coach of the Black Stars ahead of the team's 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-off matches against Nigeria.
He left the role after Ghana's poor performance at the 2022 World Cup.
