A Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to carefully manage its post-election activities, such as 'Thank You Tours,' to prevent internal division.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, September 18, Dr Asah-Asante noted that while it is commendable for leaders to show gratitude to supporters after a hard-fought election, such gestures must be well-structured and collectively sanctioned.
“I believe there’s nothing wrong with going to say thank you to people who voted for you and supported you through thick and thin. But always, there’s a caution. If there are differences relative to that, then the party must sit down and address them,” he stated.
The real reason Asiedu Nketiah is embarking on a 'Thank You Tour'
He warned that failure to resolve disagreements could create cracks within the NDC, similar to challenges experienced in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“If you want to maintain cohesion, you must sit down with party people and agree on what to do. It shouldn’t be something that tears the party apart,” he said.
Dr Asah-Asante also referenced NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s recent call for members to prioritise hard work and research over the scramble for positions, describing the advice as timely.
He further cited the ‘Walk with Julius’ health walk led by the Chief of Staff, which has sparked debate within the party, stressing the need for collective approval of such activities to avoid unnecessary tensions.
“It is too early for the NDC to allow internal conflicts to derail its focus. They need to win the confidence of the people who gave them the mandate,” he emphasised.

His comments follow Asiedu Nketiah’s ongoing “Thank You” tour, which aims to show the party's appreciation to voters for their support in the 2024 election.
