Terror at Juapong as siblings allegedly murder a juvenile

The people of Dorfor Avedotoe, a farming community near Juapong, in the Juapong/Adidome District of the Volta Region, are in a state of shock and mourning as two siblings in the village are alleged to have murdered a boy from the same village.

A witness told, GBCONLINE that, "The incident happened on Friday, 16 June 2017 when two boys, Tsevi Yevu, 14 and Fafali Yevu 16 went to the bush with cattle around 11am only for the cattle to return unaccompanied around 5 in the evening. The boys failed to return as expected.”

According to the eyewitness, a search was conducted by the Asafo Group and Avedotoe town folk from that Friday to Sunday but the boys could not be found.

Our sources say the matter was later reported to The Juapong Police for action.

Upon police investigations, the search team "…found Fafali Yevu dead in a forest with gunshot wounds on his leg and cutlass wounds on his neck, hand and waist".

His body was found near a farm owned by one of the two suspects by name Samuel Rasta Tugbenyo.

In an interview with GBCONLINE (gbcghana.com) reporter Francis Edzorna Mensah, Peki District Police Commander, DSP Mathew Asante, confirmed the incident and said the two suspects – Samuel and his brother Senyo Tugbenyo - were picked on Tuesday, 20/06/17 and they are in police custody pending further investigations into the case.

According to him, the nearly decomposed body found on Monday 19 June has been sent to the Peki Government Hospital for autopsy and report.

He said his men are still searching for the other boy, who failed to return.

Meanwhile, the two suspects were expected to be put before court Thursday, 22nd June.

GBCONLINE is closely following and monitoring the case and agitations by the community people, some of whom are threatening to deal with the suspects on their own. Indications are that there is some tension in parts of the community but the police have assured that they are keeping their ears close to the ground to avert any trouble.
