Tension is brewing between the Tijaniyya and Ahlul-Sunna sects at Aboabo in the Ashanti Region as preachers from both factions are using abusive languages against each other anytime they mount the podium.

In May 2016, the Tijaniyya and Ahlul-Sunna sects clashed in the Aboabo No. 2 community and two persons sustained cutlass wounds while wind screens of two vehicles were smashed.

The confusion between the two Islamic sects occurred on Thursday, May 19, 2016 when one person believed to be from the Tijaniyya sect, was attacked by some the youth from the Ahlul-Sunna sect.

But with the latest seeming tension, the Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council has moved in to avert any clash between the two, warning it will not hesitate to take action against their respective leadership if they fail to call their followers to order.

A meeting between the Council and the leadership of both sects was held Tuesday in an effort to broker peace to avert possible clashes between them. At the meeting, the Security Council requested leadership of both factions to give assurances of their readiness to end the seeming tension.

The Council as part of its measures is to direct all mosques’ within the community to lower the loud speakers they use in preaching. Asokore Mampong Municipal Coordinating Director , Mohammed Adam Baba described the situation as worrying.
