Tension erupted at the Ghana–Burkina Faso border town of Hamile in the Upper West Region after irate youth launched a rampage against officials of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
According to a report by myjoyonline.com on September 14, 2025, the disturbances, which began late Saturday night and extended into the early hours of Sunday, saw the youth burning car tyres and vandalizing the Immigration Service office in the area.
“They set ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Service and also burned car tyres,” the report stated.

The protests were reportedly triggered by allegations that an immigration officer had aided gunmen from Burkina Faso to enter Ghana through the Hamile border.
The officer was also accused of wrongfully arresting a Burkinabe woman, who had fled to Ivory Coast due to unrest in her country, and attempting to repatriate her.
Angry Youth Set Military Vehicle Ablaze
Witnesses claimed the woman was forcibly bundled into one of two vehicles used by immigration officers while on her way to Nandom to visit a relative.
Security in the area has since been tightened as tensions remain high.
